CLIFF RICHARD - from a distance / the event 2 CD EMI 0724356373020 VERÖFFENTLICHUNG: 21.03.2005

On June 16 & 17, 1989, Cliff Richard played what he called the two most challenging live shows of his career to his then largest audience ever. Originally planned as a one-off show for the Friday evening, another show was quickly added for the following evening after tickets for the first show sold-out in three hours! Cliff spent six weeks in rehearsal at Shepperton Studios, working with 90 artists preparing for this extravaganza which would see him singing 45 songs, making five costume changes and moving in style from Fifties high school hop to Eighties pop. The first part of the event was based on the TV show ‘Oh Boy!’ which had given Cliff his first national television exposure in 1958. The ‘Oh Boy!’ shows’ two resident vocal groups - the Dallas Boys and Vernons Girls who reformed specially for the occasion, and the show’s original host, Jimmy Henney, made the opening announcement with ‘this is how it all began thirty years ago.’ The ‘Oh Boy’ band played the opening chords of Buddy Holly’s ‘Oh Boy’, Cliff appeared on stage wearing a replica of the outfit he wore the first time he sang ‘Move It’ on stage in October 1958, when he was one of the supporting acts on the Kalin Twins UK tour from America. The Kalin Twins also joined Cliff on stage for the first time since their chart topping heyday, thirty years previously. Cliff’s solo set featured a mix of familiar hits & new recordings from his then current album ‘Stronger’ Tony Meehan and Jet Harris original Shadows members joined Cliff on stage. The finale - the most emotional point of the show for Cliff - came with ‘From A Distance’.

    PRINCE - the hits / the b-sides 3 CD WARNER 9362454402 VERÖFFENTLICHUNG: 21.03.2005

"You can be the side effect," murmelt er, "I'd rather be the dope" ("Du kannst der Nebeneffekt sein, ich bin lieber die Droge").

DURAN DURAN - greatest (Explicit) CD & DVD CAPITOL / EMI 73378 VERÖFFENTLICHUNG: 29.03.2005

Personnel includes: Duran Duran; Jonathan Elias (samples). Producers include: Duran Duran, Nile Rodgers, Bernard Edwards, Chris Kimsey, Daniel Abraham. Compilation producer: Nigel Reeve. This release includes a bonus DVD. Though '80s nostalgia was an inevitability, the truth is that some of the most influential voices of that era never went away. The members of Duran Duran had their mortgages paid off long before GREATEST was conceived, so their sincerity in releasing a best of album is not to be doubted. One listen is enough to convince the most forgetful fan that every once in a while, the musical taste of teenage girls is right on the mark. GREATEST follows the teen heartthrobs from their inspiring early days (the quintessential new wave anthem "Planet Earth," the stylish, more-than-suggestive "Girls On Film") straight through to their later work ("Electric Barbarella," a whirring, modern dance cut). In between, the classic "Hungry Like The Wolf" and the mournful "Save A Prayer" give evidence of the band's mastery of the pop form, while the Bond theme "View To A Kill" and "Notorious" trace their development during the decade with which they are inextricably linked.

BRIAN ENO - thursday afternoon ASTRALWERKS ENOCD11 VERÖFFENTLICHUNG: 21.03.2005

Personnel: Brian Eno, Michael Brook. Engineers: Tim Hunt, Nigel Gayler, Daniel Lanois. Includes liner notes by C.S.J. Bofop & Brian Eno. The whole of THURSDAY AFTERNOON consists of one 61-minute track, itself an edit of a much longer piece designed as the accompaniment for a video piece by artist Russell Mills. In the tradition of 19th century program music, THURSDAY AFTERNOON attempts to musically evoke the feelings of a specific experience. Amusingly, the experience being evoked is the tedium of a nondescript, unexciting day. While it's perhaps up to the individual listener as to whether this makes for an entirely satisfying listening experience, THURSDAY AFTERNOON is one of Brian Eno's most intellectually intriguing pieces. THURSDAY AFTERNOON stretches the concept of ambient music nearly to the breaking point--the piece consists almost entirely of single notes and simple chords held seemingly without end, with the occasional wash of piano notes wafting through. Or, to put it another way, nothing happens. Frequently
On 21st March 2005, the third in the series of Brian Eno reissues – ‘Soundtracks’ works are reissued. All tracklistings are as the original vinyl release. “Thursday Afternoon”, according to Eno, was the purest expression of what he thought ambient music should be: endless, relatively unchanging moods. It was composed specifically for the new CD format, a single track, 61 minute long piece (unachievable previously with the LP format), to accompany a video installation at Sony Tokyo. As with all recent reissues, this album has been digitally transferred from the Original Masters by Simon Heyworth and mastered using 'Class A' Analogue Electronics combined with the best Analogue to Digital conversion.

    01. Thursday Afternoon - (61 minute version)

BRIAN ENO - apollo: atmosphere & soundtracks ASTRALWERKS ENOCD10 VERÖFFENTLICHUNG: 21.03.2005

Personnel: Brian Eno (keyboards, synthesizers, programming); Daniel Lanois, Roger Eno. Includes liner notes by Brian Eno. An invitation to score Al Reinert's film of the Apollo Mission's lunar landing provided Eno with the "opportunity to explore the feelings of space travel." APOLLO is "one small stepà" for Eno, here working both within and beyond the conceptual confines of his Ambient series. The disc's dozen gorgeous, evocative miniatures see Eno's first collaborative work with producer/guitarist Daniel Lanois--a collaborator who would prove central to many of Eno's subsequent projects--and with his own brother, pianist Roger Eno. APOLLO contains some of Eno's most carefully crafted melodies, wrought impressionistically in limpid, quicksilver synth and gilded with Lanois's liquid guitar lines. "Matta" and "Under Stars II" imagine the wonders of weightlessness and zero-gravity drift. Lanois's "Silver Morning" views the dawn's smoldering glow from above, while the golden rays of "Deep Blue Day" strain to break at the planet's horizon. "An Ending (Ascent)" watches tearfully from the heavens as a tiny blue Earth falls away into the cradling arms of space; "Always Returning" welcomes the sight of terra firma's green expanses; and the twinkling "Stars" casts its eyes heavenward with a new sense of respect and homesick longing. An ambient masterpiece
On 21st March 2005, the third in the series of Brian Eno reissues – ‘Soundtracks’ works are reissued. All tracklistings are as the original vinyl release. “Apollo” was made in relation to a film (directed by Al Reinert) that was made entirely of real footage from the Apollo missions. The idea was to try and make a frontier space music of some kind. The album also saw Eno’s first collaborative work with producer/guitarist Daniel Lanois, a collaboration that would prove central to many of Eno’s subsequent projects (including U2). As with all recent reissues, this album has been digitally transferred from the Original Masters by Simon Heyworth and mastered using 'Class A' Analogue Electronics combined with the best Analogue to Digital conversion.

BRIAN ENO - music for films ASTRALWERKS ENOCD9 VERÖFFENTLICHUNG: 21.03.2005

Personnel: Brian Eno; Fred Frith, Robert Fripp, Paul Rudolph (guitar); John Cale (viola); Rhett Davies (trumpet); Rod Melvin (electric piano); Percy Jones, Bill MacCormick (bass); Phil Collins, Dave Mattacks (percussion). Because it was released between 1975's proto-ambient DISCREET MUSIC and 1979's similarly-titled AMBIENT 1: MUSIC FOR AIRPORTS, 1978's MUSIC FOR FILMS is often mistakenly lumped in with Brian Eno's ambient releases. However, while MUSIC FOR FILMS shares some of the facets of Eno's ambient music, particularly in the lack of vocals, the structure of the album precludes its description as an ambient release. While Eno's definition of ambient music focuses on the extended length of pieces and their meditative content, the 18 tracks on MUSIC FOR FILM are very brief--only one reaches four minutes and half are under two--and they cover an appropriately cinematic range of moods, from tranquility to fear. At times, Eno and his collaborators, including Fred Frith, Phil Collins, and John Cale, recall such soundtrack composers as Bernard Herrmann and Nino Rota, but MUSIC FOR FILMS is quintessential Eno
On 21st March 2005, the third in the series of Brian Eno reissues – ‘Soundtracks’ works are reissued. All tracklistings are as the original vinyl release. At an early stage in his career, Eno came to realise that the studio was ideal in making musical pictures, creating new landscapes and time and space contexts. “Music For Films” was initially a limited edition LP sent out in 1976 to filmmakers. The ideas further expanded into commercial releases, comprising of short instrumental compositions for the possible use as soundtracks to ‘imaginary’ films. As with all recent reissues, this album has been digitally transferred from the Original Masters by Simon Heyworth and mastered using 'Class A' Analogue Electronics combined with the best Analogue to Digital conversion.

    STING - bring on the night 2 CD A & M RECO / UNIVERSAL 0602498803653 VERÖFFENTLICHUNG: 29.03.2005

As Sting embarks on the cross-country Broken Music Tour of primarily college campuses this spring with a four-piece band, his jazz-infused genre-bending mid-'80s ensemble takes center stage with the CD reissue of the double-live, Grammy-winning "Bring On The Night" (A&M/UMe) and the DVD debut of the Grammy-winning film of the same name, both released March 29, 2005.

Augmenting the "Bring On The Night" DVD, which premieres its audio in 5.1 Surround Sound and its video from a high-definition transfer, are the music videos for "Bring On The Night," "If You Love Somebody Set Them Free" and "Russians" as well as the original trailer and radio spots, a photo gallery and director Michael Apted's liner notes.

For Sting's first solo album, he stretched the boundaries of pop by enlisting jazz musicians: saxman Branford Marsalis (Art Blakey, Dizzy Gillespie, Miles Davis, brother Wynton Marsalis, Clark Terry), keyboardist Kenny Kirkland (Wynton Marsalis, Gillespie, Elvin Jones), bassist Darryl Jones (Miles Davis) and drummer Omar Hakim (Marcus Miller, Weather Report, David Bowie). Backing singer Janice Pendarvis had worked with Philip Glass, Laurie Anderson, Roberta Flack and Peter Tosh, and Dolette McDonald with The Police, Talking Heads, and Anderson.

In 1986, the film "Bring On The Night," shot by critically acclaimed director Michael Apted ("Coal Miner's Daughter," "Gorillas In The Mist") documented the development of the band from rehearsals in an historic castle to their first live show at the Theatre Mogador in Paris. Wrote Sheila Benson for the Los Angeles Times: "What Apted is attempting, quite shamelessly, is to make us accomplices in this creation, to get to know these musicians individually, to have us begin to worry about the success of their first concert in Paris. He succeeds."

Accompanying the film was a double-live soundtrack recorded in Paris, Rome and Arnhem (Holland). The homevideo won a Grammy for Best Music Video, Long Form, and the album a Grammy for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance.

Nearly 20 years later, "Bring On The Night's" film and album remain as challenging, versatile and fascinating as Sting himself.

LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 1, 2005-- As one of the most popular and significant artists of our era heads out on tour this spring for the first time in three years -- in support of the platinum-certified, two-CD "Words & Music: John Mellencamp's Greatest Hits" -- a "Definitive Remaster" series of reissues is set to reinvigorate his original albums. Thirteen Mellencamp discs, from 1978's "A Biography" (never before released in the U.S. and never on CD anywhere) to 1998's "Rough Harvest," are included in "The John Mellencamp Definitive Remasters" to be chronologically issued in three releases from Universal Music Enterprises (UMe) and Island/Def Jam during 2005.
    Source: Universal Music Enterprises

Each "Definitive Remaster" features newly remastered sound utilizing the original master tapes, a rare or previously unreleased bonus track and upgraded packaging encompassing lyrics and the complete original artwork.

Series One, to be released March 29, 2005, encompasses:

"A Biography": Originally released only in the U.K. and Australia, the album includes the original issuance of his breakthrough track "I Need A Lover." The "Definitive Remaster" bonus is the U.K. single version of "I Need A Lover."

"John Cougar": "I Need A Lover" arrived in America on this 1979 album and scored his first Top 40 hit. The "Definitive Remaster" bonus is the previously unreleased "Take Home Pay."

"Nothin' Matters And What If It Did": This 1980 Steve Cropper-produced album peaked Top 40 and yielded the Top 40 singles "This Time" and "Ain't Even Done With The Night." The album would eventually be certified platinum. The "Definitive Remaster" bonus is the previously unreleased "Latest Game."

"American Fool": The 1982 album that launched Mellencamp as a superstar hit #1 and quintuple platinum. A pair of singles went gold, "Jack & Diane" (#1) and Grammy winner "Hurts So Good" (#2), and "Hand To Hold On" hit the Top 20. The "Definitive Remaster" bonus is the previously unreleased "American Fool."

"Uh-Huh": In 1983 his first album as John Cougar Mellencamp spawned the Top 10s "Pink Houses" and "Crumblin' Down" plus Top 20 "Authority Song." The album reached #9 and triple platinum. The "Definitive Remaster" bonus is the acoustic "Pink Houses" first issued as the b-side of "Authority Song."

Bringing together rock, folk, country, blues and R&B, Mellencamp has sold more than 40 million albums and received 11 Grammy nominations (winning one). He is the recipient of Billboard's highest accolade, the 2001 Century Award for distinguished creative achievement, and the 2003 Woody Guthrie Award (for exemplifying the ideals of the legendary folk singer).

2004's "Words & Music: John Mellencamp's Greatest Hits" (Island/Def Jam and UMe) marked the first time every Top 40 pop hit of his career to date was made available on one collection and debuted new songs "Walk Tall" and "Thank You," both produced by Mellencamp and Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds. The Words & Music Tour kicks off March 23rd in Savannah, Ga.

JOHN MELLENCAMP - american fool ISLAND MUSIC / UNIVERSAL 418902 VERÖFFENTLICHUNG: 29.03.2005

John Cougar and the American listening public became inseparable after this landmark album arrived in 1982. While AMERICAN FOOL wasn't John Cougar's first full-length recording, it was the one wherein he gained commercial and artistic footing, and established a formula that would become his trademark style--simple roots-rock melodies with stirring choruses, unguardedly emotional vocals, and lyrics that reflect the experiences of the common man. Album opener "Hurts So Good" is a playful rocker (with a dangerously catchy refrain) that has become part of the pop canon, and "Jack & Diane" is one of the great slice-of-life songs of the '80s. While both songs loom large, other overlooked treasures include "China Girl," with its cheeky faux-Chinese guitar riff, and the ballad "Weakest Moments," which blends transcendent acoustic-guitar changes with a gorgeous, careworn melody. Here and elsewhere on this well-written record, Cougar proves he's nobody's fool.

    01. Hurts So Good
    02. Jack And Diane
    03. Hand To Hold On To
    04. Danger List
    05. Can You Take It
    06. Thundering Hearts
    07. China Girl
    08. Close Enough
    09. Weakest Moments

    BONUS-TRACK:

    010. American Fool - (previously unreleased)

JOHN COUGAR MELLENCAMP - uh huh ISLAND MUSIC / UNIVERSAL 6833025 VERÖFFENTLICHUNG: 29.03.2005

Recorded at the Shack, Jackson County, Indiana in July 1983. For 1983's UH HUH, the follow-up to his breakthrough album, AMERICAN FOOL, John Cougar reclaimed his real last name--Mellencamp--while keeping "Cougar" as a middle name. The change is significant, since UH HUH still features the swaggering rock & roll of John Cougar, in the form of the raucous "Crumblin' Down" and the defiant "Authority Song," while pointing towards his more mature John Mellencamp days with "Pink Houses," a celebration of small-town America. The aforementioned tunes were all major hits for Mellencamp, and they make up the first three songs on this front-loaded record. The rest of UH HUH, however, is not to be overlooked. "Warmer Place to Sleep" works an energetic Stones-y riff, "Serious Business" is a kissing cousin to "Crumblin' Down" and the earlier "Hurts So Good," and "Golden Gates" proves to be a gentle closing number. For a potent dose of Mellencamp's "heartland rock," look no further than this album.

    01. Crumblin' Down
    02. Pink Houses
    03. Authority Song
    04. Warmer Place To Sleep
    05. Jackie O
    06. Play Guitar
    07. Serious Business
    08. Lovin' Mother For Ya
    09. Golden Gates

    BONUS-TRACK:

    10. Pink Houses - (acoustic version)
