Van Halen (news | tickets) has nailed down the tracklist for this summer's "The Very Best of Van Halen," a two-disc collection that will feature three new cuts.
"It's About Time," "Learning to See" and "Up for Breakfast"--Van Halen's first new songs since 1996 to feature formerly estranged singer Sammy Hagar--will augment the album's 30 previously released tracks.
The set, which is arranged in chronological order, opens with guitarist Eddie Van Halen's signature guitar solo, "Eruption," a track that first appeared on the group's 1978, self-titled debut. Fifteen songs culled from the band's six studio albums with original singer David Lee Roth follow, along with 14 cuts from Hagar's first tenure with the group.
Also included are live versions of "Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love," "Jump" and "Panama." The complete list appears below.
The band has not announced a specific release date for the album, which is its second hits collection. "Van Halen Best of Volume I" surfaced in 1996, and featured two new tracks that the group recorded with Roth, as well as the Hagar-fronted cut "Humans Being," a song that first appeared on that year's "Twister" soundtrack."
On June 11, Van Halen kicks off its first tour with Hagar since he and the group split on bad terms in 1996. That same day, the Westwood One radio network will air a new interview with the group, and will give listeners "a taste of all three new songs" featured on the forthcoming best-of set, according to the popular Van Halen News Desk fan site.
A new interview with the group is also due to appear in an upcoming issue of Guitar World magazine that hits newsstands on July 15.

With a stark white sleeve - reflecting the simplicity of white label 12"s - INXS's remix album features mixes dating back to 1990 and as up-to-date as the all new Beginerz mix of 'New Sensation' and various new edits.

INXS’s distinctive fusion of rock, dance and funk naturally lends itself to the remixer. Incorporating all the elements of the original classics and molding them into new beats and beasts is no easy task, but INXS have always been ahead of the game when choosing the craftsmen to take their music into new realms. What is presented here is the music of INXS multiplied and taken to a new level - INXS Squared – The Remixes.
Perhaps it was INXS’s rabid interest in dance music, or simply their deep desire to take their music as far as it could go in all directions that fueled a long term alliance with the world of remixing. Over the 25 years of their career, INXS have exposed and supported some of the most innovative talent on the remix scene - in DJ culture, big stars like Paul Oakenfold and Basement Jaxx worked with INXS early in their careers and have since become household names. Others featured here, such as remix pioneers David Morales and Pete Lorimer, crafted their abilities in the underground dance music scenes of New York and London before working with INXS. The ‘90s brought a range of dance music mavens and notable remix innovators like Coldcut, Youth and Apollo 440 into the INXS sphere. In demand studio wizard Dan the Automator came on board in 2002 and tipped the INXS axis in a new direction injecting rap into the equation.
Aside from the famous and acclaimed, duo Chris & James and Leadstation cast special treatments over their INXS commissions with wonderful results. Skimming the cream of remix work on INXS songs past and present shows the range of creativity of those involved and the strength of the material to adapt to new trends and approaches.
In recent years, INXS has been involved with a new wrinkle in the remix game – the “VS.” phenomenon. Dance hits such as the reworking of ‘Never Tear Us Apart’ by Tall Paul (rechristened ‘Precious Heart’) gave the song new life 14 years after it originally appeared, and likewise Par-T-One morphed one of INXS’s first big Australian hits, ‘Just Keep Walking’ into the wild smash ‘I’m So Crazy’ over 20 years later. In 2003, Australia’s own Rogue Traders found themselves with a hit in the form of ‘One Of My Kind’ a retake on INXS’s worldwide hit of 1987, ‘Need You Tonight’ (and went on to win an ARIA Award for it). Added to these is the new previously unreleased remix of ‘New Sensation’ by The Beginerz, which spins the 1987 hit into dance floor hyperspace. INXS? Definitely. INXS Squared – The Remixes? Even more so!

Brand new material includes the Empire And Dance demos (super), the demo of In Every Heaven and the rehearsal of Don't You (Forget About Me) for Live Aid. The rest has all been bootlegged but it'll be good to get it mixed, mastered and released properly.
The compilers have also omitted material previously released. Hence the sessions of King Is White And In The Crowd and New Gold Dream (81,82,83,84) have not been included - they've already appeared. Nice touch. Likewise Don't You (Forget About Me) has been left off the Ahoy recording - if you want that, pick up the single of All The Things She Said.
Unfortunately a whole glut of Real Life live material has appeared - most of which was previously released on the Stand By Love, Real Life and Love Song 1992 singles. In fact, most of this section also appeared on the fan-club only Real Live 91 CD. It's also one of the most bootlegged tours; so was it really necessary?
Interestingly, none of the new tracks from Live And Rare made it to the box set; so that release has become more desirable. None of the 'remix' album tracks made it either (such as Easy, Precious, So Precious and Speed Your Love To Me). And it looks like the early years material, especially the second set of Life In A Day demos, remains in some form of legal limbo - so you'll still need to search for The Early Years 77-78.
