Genial! Es hätte kaum jemand besseren treffen können!

Gibts dazu noch eines dieser genialen Statements von Nik himself?

Hier noch ein wenig genauer:

30th March 2004

Yes, it is bloody brilliant news. and no, we will not be releasing an album on the net. Events have overtaken us, and we are already talking to universal about what and when.
Nik is looking and feeling in great shape, ready to rock!

The HERE AND NOW TOUR goes out in Dec, but Nik will be doing loads of promo before that. If things go really well this year, Nik will reform the band and do a major tour either at christmas or in early 2005. I think the new Universal album will be of at least 18 tracks, some brand new songs, some of the huge hits, some of Eagles tracks, and some that were written for Elton, Oxygen etc....
Basically it's the perfect marketing tool to get Nik as much recognition, press, and TV as possible.

KEEP YOUR FINGERS CROSSED!

luv

Mickey

Hier nun ein Statement von Nik zur Sache:

Dear All,

Rumours abound on some of the unofficial sites, so time to put the record straight.

We are currently talking to Universal (who own MCA and, therefor my old recordings) about the possibility of a two album deal.

The first would be a “best of” with at least six new tracks. The “best of” portion would obviously consist of the old hits with a couple of album tracks but could also include a few of the Eagle recordings. Universal would undertake to use all their considerable resources (including T.V advertising) to promote the record. The target date is September this year.

The second album would be of completely new material and would follow a year later.

It’s only talk at the moment. Whether it happens or not is, pretty much, down to me. All Universal need to start the ball rolling are a couple of new tracks to use as singles. Yep, that’s all folks, a couple of, wait for it … hits!!

None of the material they’ve heard so far has hit the mark. This is not terribly surprising as the Album I’m currently working on was only ever intended for release over the internet and a single would’ve been a waste of time. Indeed, I was revelling in the freedom of not having to deliver songs 3.5 minutes long with a chorus every 45 seconds.

Now, excuse me if I’m feeling a bit sheepish about telling you all this, but most of you (the faithful) have got all the old stuff several times over and were probably looking forward to twelve new tracks in June. So, to ask to fork out your hard earned on yet another best of just to hear six new tracks seems a bit harsh. Unfortunately, this is an opportunity I can’t afford to turn down. So, I hope you’ll forgive me.

Oh, and you remember I said that I’d never do any of those 80s tours? That being on one would just look really desperate, and would signal the end of any aspirations to be considered a current and socially relevant artist? That it was all too cabaret and sad and wild horses wouldn’t drag me within a fifty mile radius of any of the gigs?

I lied!

I’ll be part of the Hear And Now tour in Dec 2004.

The truth is, I just ran out of reasons for not doing it.

So let me know what you think of my shameless U Turn, wish me luck with Universal and hope to see some of you in December. Thanks again for being so patient.

Gibt mal wieder was neues von Nik :)

1/7/04

Dear All,

Been doing bits and pieces of promotion for the here and now tour. Nothing too onerous. Couple of TV / radio interviews, a press launch and a partcularly surreal night in Hell’s Kitchen. (I had the pigeon and the lamb, if you’re interested). Good to see some old (but well preserved) faces again after all these years. I asked Midge Ure how they persuaded him to do the tour. He said “They told me you were doing it, what about you?” I said, “They told me you were doing it”!

I’m moving house in a few weeks time, and that’s proving to be quite a distraction. You don’t realize how much junk you’ve got until you try stuffing it into a cardboard box.

Spent yesterday in sunny Bermondsey, recording some backing vocals with the beautiful Imogen Heap. (If only I was ten, alright, fifteen years younger…. OK, and two feet taller!!)** Hope to be doing drums next week and to start mixing five tracks for the “best of” the week after that. It’ll be good to get something finished at last.

Still talking to Universal. Nothing signed, sealed or delivered as yet but these things take time. Talking of which, it’s about time I answered a few of your emails. Check out Drumtalk*(1) for some new replies.

Keep those emails coming, and thanks for all your support.

Love

Nik

Hier etwas aus der Sunday Sun: (ist zwar schon 4 Wochen alt, aber egal)

Nik Kershaw has certainly been around a bit! He's best remembered for his take on 1980s-style fingerless mittens, leg warmers and a snood, and hits like The Riddle, Wouldn't it be Good and I Won't Let the Sun Go Down on Me.

Kershaw enjoyed major success as a recording artist, selling million of albums and singles, and has since written songs for Elton John, Cliff Richard, Ronan Keating and many other household names.

Tired of constant promotional work and touring, Kershaw had planned to embrace modern technology and release his latest album via the internet.

But he was forced to reassess when his management informed him that Universal Records wanted to release an album consisting of both old hits and brand-new tracks.

This summer finds Kershaw not only writing for the album but also looking forward to playing his part in this winter's Here & Now 1980s revival tour, which arrives at Newcastle's Metro Radio Arena on Tuesday, December 14.

"I have been saying `no' to this tour for seven years. I had this terrible fear of losing my credibility," Kershaw admits.

"Then I woke up one morning and realised I didn't have any credibility anyway so I thought, `What's the point in sitting at home collecting dust when I could be strutting what's left of my stuff in front of thousands of people again?' "

Nik Kershaw appears alongside Belinda Carlisle, Kim Wilde, Living in a Box, Midge Ure and Limahl on the Here and Now Tour 2004. Tickets cost £33.50 from the 24-hour telephone booking hotline on 0870-707 8000.
