Angesichts des durchaus enormen Tatendrangs einiger seiner Altersgenossen fragt man sich oft genug, was hätte der Mann nicht alles noch an Glanztaten abliefern können, wäre er am 08. Dezember 1980 nicht diesem gestörten Mark Chapman begegnet. 24 Jahre ist das jetzt her, und noch immer, oder immer wieder, prägen die zeitlosen Songs von JOHN LENNON das jeweilige aktuelle Bewusstsein, etwa mit Titeln wie ´Working Class Hero´ und ´Woman Is The Nigger Of The World´ oder eben auch ´Imagine´, wohl der eindrücklichsten Komposition aus seiner Feder. Sie sind vornehmlich in den entsprechenden Band-Fassungen bekannt, akustische Versionen gibt´s eher selten zu hören und sind schwieriger zu bekommen.
Abhilfe schafft das neu zusammen gestellte Album ´Acoustic´, das ursprünglich von YOKO ONO nur für den japanischen Markt vorgesehen war, jetzt aber auch hierzulande erhältlich sein wird. Es ist purer JOHN LENNON -- Stimme, akustische Gitarre, Melodien, Texte. Neun der 16 Stücke sind bekannt, waren Bestandteil der 4CD-Box ´Anthology´. Sieben Songs bzw. Versionen werden hiermit erstmals offiziell veröffentlicht, darunter ´Cold Turkey´ und ´Dear Yoko´ sowie die ursprüngliche Fassung von ´Real Love´, die im März 1996 in der Studio-Bearbeitung von HARRISON, McCARTNEY und STARR als neue Single die 2. Folge der Beatles-´Anthology´ einläutete.

´Acoustic´ offeriert in seiner reduzierten, fast schon archaischen Singer/Songwriter-Ausrichtung eine neue interessante Facette in der Diskographie dieses bedeutenden Musikers.
