Am 24. November 2006 veröffentlichen Whitesnake nicht nur ihr neuestes Bühnenwerk „Live...In The Shadow Of The Blues“, sondern stecken gleichzeitig voller Pläne für die folgenden Monate. So viel sei schon jetzt verraten: Coverdale & Co. planen für das kommende Jahr ein neues Studioalbum! Wie in etwa das klingen könnte verraten die Musiker bereits ansatzweise: Auf „Live...In The Shadow Of The Blues“ befinden sich neben zahlreichen Klassikern auch vier brandneue Stücke, die Coverdale mit seinem Gitarrist Doug Aldrich geschrieben und mit der Band im Studio aufgenommen hat. „Doug ist ein jahrelanger Fan von Whitesnake und kennt meine Stimme ganz genau. Deshalb war es einfach für mich mit ihm neue Songs zu schreiben“, verrät der Bandleader. „Die Stücke ‚Dog’, ‚If You Want Me – I’ll Come Running’ und ’Ready To Rock’ sind packende Rocknummern, die speziell für die Bühne komponiert wurden und das bei Whitesnake immer wieder beliebte Thema Sex behandeln. Meine Frau war mit den Texten übrigens einverstanden“, grinst Coverdale auf seine typische Art und charakterisiert die vierte neue Komposition ‚All I Want Is You’ als klassische Power-Ballade á la Whitesnake.
Mittelpunkt und Herz des neuen Albums sind allerdings natürlich die Live-Mitschnitte, die auf der aktuellen Welttour gemacht wurden. „Wir haben in den vergangenen zwei Jahren mehr als 100 Konzerte in dieser Besetzung gespielt und sind dabei als Band von Show zu Show stärker geworden“, sagt Coverdale. „Ich hatte schon früher das Gefühl, dass Whitesnake im Studio zwar eine Macht sind, aber erst auf der Bühne erlebt man uns wirklich in unserem Element. Die berauschende Mischung aus Blut, Schweiß und Tränen kann man nun einmal nicht imitieren, man muss sie sehen und hören, um Whitesnake wirklich zu verstehen. Diese Band ist stets zu ganz außergewöhnlichen Leistungen fähig.“ Er spricht von fabelhaften Versionen seiner Klassiker ‚Walking In The Shadow Of The Blues’, ‚Don´t Break My Heart Again’ oder ‚Slide It In’. „Speziell ‚Slide It In’ klingt besser als jemals zuvor. David Coverdale hat eine der prägnantesten Stimmen der Rockgeschichte, Lieder wie "Now Your're Gone", "Still Of The Night", Here I Go Again", "Love Ain't No Stranger" ua sind großartig und der totale Hardrock-Traum.
Ich war nie ein großer Deep-Purple-Fan, möchte aber hier doch gerne nochmal provozieren und die ketzerische Ansicht loslassen (für die ich damals gerne von der nicht gerade als tolerant geltenden Deep-Purple-Fangemeinde fast gesteinigt worden wäre und mir DJRene jetzt sicher gerne an den Hals springen würde ), dass ich David Coverdale für den besten Sänger halte, den Deep Purple jemals hatte und "Stormbringer" daher auch so ziemlich das einzige Deep Purple Album ist, das ich richtig geil finde (obwohl es nicht die stärksten Purple-Songs enthält. Daher finde ich, dass die wirklichen Meilensteine von Deep Purple mit Coverdale als Sänger noch um Klassen besser gewesen wären.
Nur zwei Bitten hätte ich an Coverdale: Schluss mit dem Botox und eine neue Frisur, wenn's geht
