Was man unter Indiepop versteht ist sowieso so eine Sache, denn Depeche Mode würde man (heute) als solche wohl kaum einstufen, aber von der Definition stimmt(e) es perfekt.

Ich habe keine sogenannte Lieblingsindiepopband. The Smiths mag ich trotzdem. New Order auch. Das "Label" Indiepop nicht.

Sorry, aber was haben die Herren Kirk und Mallinder mit Indiepop a la Smiths zu tun ?

Man könnte jetzt wieder Diskussionen anfangen nach dem Motto "Was ist Indiepop denn nun eigentlich bzw. was ist Independent Musik? ". Aber für mich geht es hier in diesem Thread um die Smiths und verwandte Bands. Und Depeche Mode und auch die von mir geschätzten Cabaret Voltaire haben hier nichts verloren.

Aber genug OT. Danke an Lutz für das Posten der (auch für mich) offiziellen Definition von "Indie Pop". Kylie, DeMo, Erasure und Jason Donovan waren zwar in den Indie Charts vertreten, aber nur weil sie auf unabhängigen Labels waren (PWL und Mute). Mit Gitarrenpop a la Mighty Lemon Drops oder Primal Scream haben die ja wohl eher nichts zu tun.

"Britpop" oder "Indiepop" sind ebenso wie "Alternative" oder gar "AOR" ("AdultOrientatedRockmusic") einfach nur absolut schwachsinnige Musikbezeichnungen von Menschen die in Schubladenform denken für Menschen, die nicht wissen, was sie hören sollen!
So einfach ist das!

Die Cabs sind definitiv weder das eine noch das andere, was die oben von mir angeführten Begriffe angeht!

"Die beste Indiepopband der 80er" gibt es daher auch nicht!

Okay... einigen wir uns, was den Stil der Smiths, 1000 Violins, Mighty Mighty oder Chesterfields angeht auf "Gitarrenpop". Hört sich zwar auch saudoof an... aber was kürzeres/prägnanteres fällt mir grad nicht ein.

Die Cabs sind für mich absolut undefinierbar... ein wenig Industrial, ein wenig Synthiepop ("Why kill time when you can kill yourself"), in späteren Jahren sehr dancefloorlastig.

PS: schön, daß noch mehr User C`86 kennen und mögen. Freut mich...
